What is BUTA?
BUTA is a symbol of the divine fire worshipped in Azerbaijan since the ancient times of Zoroastrianism. It takes a shape of an almond or twisted teardrop with a sharp-curved upper end.BUTA is the oldest national ornament in Azerbaijan and plays a prominent place among the patterns of printed cloth. You can spot the Buta pattern in carpet designs , kelaghayi (a national Azerbaijani silk shawl) as well as in the paintings of decorative applied arts and in architectural design.
BUTA is perceived today as one of the ornamental symbols of the Near East. In Europe it is known as Paisley. In many countries, a gift with a drawing of Buta is still considered to be a kind of talisman for happiness and prosperity to the house.
Buta is loved by many craftsmen and artists. My intake of Buta is in the medium of glass complimented by glass painting and used as a deco-piece for home interiors. Hope you will enjoy my Glass Buta collection.
